Kim Kardashian Beanie

Thursday, October 06, 2011

Kim Kardashian has been wearing lots of different beanies this year.

I decided to make a pattern that looks just like the black one she wore. Eugenia Kim designed her beanie, and it costs $185!!! Umm, no thanks! Lets make one that looks just like it for a whopping $10! Sound good? ;) Click here for the video tutorial!

This is how you make it:

When you're done making it, PLEASE post up a pic of it on the Facebook Page. I really want to see how y'alls projects are turning out!

  1. Thank you so much for your youtube video on how to make this beanie. You literally taught me knit by doing this project. It was easier to learn the different stitches by watching someone actually make something rather than just showing you the stitch. Thank you again for taking the time to make those videos they are awesome and so helpful. I love my new hat! It was fun to make something that is actually in style right now. You Rock!

    1. you can measure you head all around to see the measurement by the inch, then use any size
of the yarn and needles to knit a piece 12" x
12" then count the gauge(means how many stitches per inch both width and length).then calculate size to fit, or use on-line web site's size(small, med, large), use other people's calculations, you will see a lot info on line in knitting or crochet.Youtube is good sources.

  4. How you get a size right? I'm not sure what your question is...

  5. with right size i meant for ur hat u started casting on 72 stitches is that a standard size or not. how many will i need? how do i know how many stitches to cast on?

  6. I'm not sure if it's standard or not. I just knitted, and measured my head and that's how many stitches I had on my needle so it worked out that way. Good luck with your business!

    1. Jo Ann, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or any local knitting store should have them. I'd buy it with a 40% or 50% off coupon

I love this project and I'm planning on trying. What kind of yarn did you use?

  9. Question? : I have size 9 circular needles, so can I use those? My other question is : I don't have interchangeable needles, so will my needles that I have work?

    Thanks

    1. Your beanie might turn out too small because you're using smaller size needles. But it might work out! What needles do you have? You just have to make sure your needles aren't longer than your piece of work. Or else you will be stretching the yarn and it'll be so frustrating for you.

  10. Hi! I noticed you knit on the tighter side, and i knit loosely..so often i use a needle down.. Have you made any gauge using #10 needles? Just to u know, give me an idea whether ishould or shouldnt go down a needle size.. And another q, how many yards have u used in this beanie?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey! Ya, I wish I didn't knit so tight cuz it makes it a struggle sometimes as you can see... Teach me your ways! ;) No I haven't. I'm not much of the pattern maker, wish I was. I would say if you usually go down a needle size, it wouldn't hurt. I used 1 1/2 skeins and each skein is 170 yards. So around 255 yards. Hope this helps!

    1. Actually im a beginner in knitting, just been doing head bands and bonnets for a month (my 2 year old always seem to find my knit bag and pull all the stitches off lol) So this is gonna be my first intermediate or more challenging pattern to try yet :) knitting loosely just came, idk if crocheting when i was a kid has anything to do with it, but i kinda got crazy about it when i was 9 lol.. I find that when i knit i little tighter, my fingers usually go numb or even hurt. Dunno if thats a bad thing though, it taught me how to be a little loose anyway. :))

    3. Hi christine! Im finally done with this one, and i love it! Il post a pic once i finished blocking it. In terms of blocking.. How would you suggest i do it? With a plate, since its a beret? Or with something spherical? :)

    4. yay! umm, i think either one will work...I actually didn't block mine(and have never blocked anything before) so I'm not an expert..sorry :(

  12. What other yarn could I use with the same gauge instead of acrylic? I am not fond of acrylic. Thank you.

    1. maybe a worsted weight merino wool ?

    2. ya as long as it's worsted weight yarn, doesn't matter what it's made out of.

  13. Is there anywhere where I can just get the pattern? I tried to follow the link on the video but I couldn't find the pattern. :/ I can't wait to get started making these for Christmas presents with matching infinity scarves!

    1. Yes, when you click on the link, it actually downloads it on your computer for you without going to a webpage or anything. So, I'd look under your download folder. If it didn't work, go here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kim-kardashian-beanie and it says Free Ravelry Download. Click on that and you should have it! Let me know if you still have problems. :)

  14. Hey Christine. My name is Adriana and I love your knitting. Everything is so beautiful. I have never knitted beanie or any thing with circular needles and this Kim Beanie was my first one and I loved doing it (I don't know if you can see it but... http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3887992243933&set=a.2881659126234.117194.1402744563&type=1&theater ). The problem is that i used a very thing yarn and not that thick needles either (i don't have any so i borrowed some from my boyfriend's mother), so it was too small with 72 so i put 112. It fits me but the pattern went wrong. Is that a special way for counting how many stitches we can put to make it bigger and not ruining the pattern?

Thank you one more time for your dedication in showing us how to do it

    1. Hi Adriana! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos. Thanks! Well, if I were you, I would try to find the right size yarn and needles. That would be the easiest way. Your link doesn't work so I can't see your beanie but I would add in multiples of 9. Let me know how it works out for you :)

  15. I'm having trouble finding 12" circular needles; it seems like the smallest they come in the stores (I checked Walmart and Michael's) is 29". Do you remember where you got yours? And would it work to get a pair of size 10 and size 11 circular needles and just really carefully transfer them over? I would only be buying the interchangeable set for this project.

    1. Yes it would work to get a pair of size 10 and 11 needles and just transfer it over. I've done that before I got my interchangeable needles. Try Jo Ann. Walmart doesn't have a big selection on needles. Or hobby lobby.

  16. hi, i was wondering how many balls of yarn i need for this or how many oz. thanks

  17. I tried to make this hat and it came out a bit small. I did use worsted weight yarn so I'm thinking I just have a big head! lol! I know you said you aren't a pattern maker but how did you figure out the measurement. If i cast on 6-9 more stitches do you think it would work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh no! haha I'm sure that's not the reason. Lots of people have been telling me the same thing. If you cast on 9 more stitches, it will work with the pattern. Let me know how it goes!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hey! 3.5mm is size US 4 and that's a lot smaller than size 10 and 11 so I don't think it will work :( I'm sorry. Go buy or borrow some bigger needles ok?!
