KAPRI SWEATER KNIT-ALONG

Saturday, October 12, 2019

I have so many projects that are in my queue err my head lol so I forget about these projects that I've already started and either didn't finish, needed to updated it, or just didn't release it. Well, around 3 years ago, I made this beanie with such a cool design(I WILL make a pattern for it) but my focus was on making another mermaid blanket version since I had this yarn I needed to use. But I just kept thinking about how cool and unique it would be to make the design on a sweater! So, the beanie and the mermaid blanket will wait...but for now, I hope you all enjoy this knitted sweater! Thank you for those who have been so patient with me releasing this pattern. After I made it in size medium, I just wanted to see it in many sizes. That takes a loooong time to figure out all the different sizes and making sure it all works. I had some amazing testers to knit the other sizes for me (THANK YOU!!!), and I couldn't be happier with the results! Love having this knitting community!

I wanted to make a video tutorial for this sweater with the instructions on the video so it makes it easier to follow along, so I decided to make the size medium for free! You can find it right here on my blog. If you want the .PDF version that has all the other sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL) including the medium, click here.

It was so hard to come up with a name for this sweater. The design reminded me of waves and beautiful elongated bird wings, so it made me think of being by the sea or the ocean. I decided to name it after my daughter Kapri and think it fits perfectly. I hope you love and enjoy knitting this sweater as much as I do. Please post your sweater on Instagram so I can see yours and share it with everyone else! #kaprisweater #iknits

You can buy the inexpensive ad-free PDF pattern on my Shop HERE that has ALL SIZES of this sweater and on Ravelry.

Repeat between * to * 3 more times. (8 increases)

Picture shows how to knit from the back of the stitch. (VIDEO)

You should have 5 sections separated with the stitch markers.

Row 2 (and all WS rows): K1, *K1, Sl 1wyib*, **When you get to 1 st. before each marker, P1**
Repeat from * to * for each section, remembering to purl the st. before each marker. Purl last st.
(for your first Row 2, you will only have 2 sts. on your 1st and last section. So for those sections you will skip what’s in the * * and just K1, P1.

Row 3
(and all RS rows): KFB, *K to 1 st. before the next marker, KFB, SM, KFB*
Repeat between * to * 3 more times. K to 1 st. before the last st., KFB. (10 increases)
For your first Row 3, KFB twice for your first and last section.)

Repeat Rows 2-3 for 20 more rows or 23 rows total from CO edge.

Tip: To make sure you are doing the design pattern correctly, look at the RS of your project,
if the slip st. is opposite of a purl st. for every other row, then you are doing it correctly!

Back: 59 sts.
Front sts. together: 48 sts.
Each Sleeve: 35 sts.

SHAPING THE FRONT (where we start knitting in the round)

CO 11 sts. on your right needle with backward loop method.

(VIDEO)

Cut yarn (leave a tail long enough to weave in later).
Slip your sts. from your left hand needle to your right hand needle until you get to your first st. marker.
Replace this marker with a distinguishable marker so you know where to start your round.
We are no longer knitting flat, we will be knitting in the round from now on!

(VIDEO)

Rnd 1
: For each section, Knit the 1st stitch, *Sl 1 wyif, P1* to end of each marker.

Rnd 2: KFB, *K to 1 st. before the next marker, KFB, SM, KFB*
Repeat between * to * 3 more times. K to end. (8 increases)

Repeat Rnds 1-2 until you have 44 rows from CO edge. *You will end on Rnd 1*

(VIDEO)

Each sleeve: 55 sts.
Front: 79 sts.
Back: 79 sts.
Total: 268 sts.

BODY

Starting at your first marker, *Place all sleeve sts. onto piece of scrap yarn/extra cables with
larger size needles so the sts. do not come off.

Remove next marker, CO 7 sts. using backward loop method*

(VIDEO)

Knit until you get to your next marker. Remove marker, repeat between * to *.

K to end. Sl your last marker on your right needle. This is the beginning of the rnd.

Option: If you would like your rnd to begin in the middle of your side, knit half of the CO sts.,
pm on right hand needle. This will be the beginning of your rnd.

Continue in pattern until you have 130(18”) rows from underarm or your desirable length. End on a sl 1, p1 round.

This is where you can choose the length of your sweater.

Make it as long or short as you want.
Remember, this is YOUR creation!

BODY RIB

Switch to smaller needles,

K1, P1 rib for 6 Rnds.

BO loosely.

SLEEVES

Transfer your sleeve sts. onto your larger needles and 16” cable or DPNs.

PU 2 sts. from underarm, PM(this will be the beginning of your rnd), PU 2 sts. K2tog, Knit the rest of the Rnd. 58 sts. *You must have an even number of sts.*

Pick Up stitches (VIDEO)

Rnd 2: *Sl 1, P1* Repeat to end of Rnd. *Make sure this flows with the design. If you need to start with P1, Sl 1 instead, then do that.*

Rnd 3: Knit all sts.

Repeat Rnds 2-3 until you get to Rnd 15.

Rnd 15 and all Decrease Rnds: K2tog, K to last 2 sts. SSK.

Slip, Slip, Knit (VIDEO)

Continue in the pattern, decreasing every 14 rnds.

End on Rnd 150 or until your sleeve measures 19" (38 sts.) *If you are petite, I would decrease more often than what I suggested so you get the correct length with a small enough cuff.*

SLEEVE RIB

With smaller needles, (this is where you might have to use DPNs or the magic loop method to keep knitting in the rnd so your sts. do not stretch)

K1, P1 rib for 9 Rnds.

BO loosely.

(VIDEO)

NECK RIB

With smaller needles and size 29” cable needle,
I start my rnd at the middle of the back.

*PU 2, sk 1* Repeat till you get to your first PU stitch.

PU 2, sk 1 (VIDEO)

K1, P1 rib for 6 Rnds.

BO loosely or do a stretchy BO.
