How to Crochet a Checkered Baby Blanket | A Handmade Gift for My Bestie’s Baby 💕

There’s no better reason to make a blanket than for your bestie’s very anticipated baby girl! We are beyond happy and excited for them. They are the best parents, and I wanted to do something extra special just for her.

Lexi is truly one of the coolest people you’ll ever meet—faithful, kind-hearted, a go-getter, quirky, and endlessly creative. So of course I was excited to make her daughter a blanket, because with Lexi, the sky is the limit. She loves anything unique and different.

She has a jewelry company called Oh Clem, with the prettiest shade of orange as its main color, so I set out to find something close—and guess what?! I found it! I knew I wanted a checkered pattern because it’s timeless, but instead of cream, I chose these two bold colors. I love how fun and playful it makes the blanket.

*NOTE - I used 1 skein of each color and Ch 50. It measured 28x36"(12 squares wide, 17 squares long). If I were to do it again, I would buy 2 skeins each color, Ch 54 with a total of 13 squares wide and 19 squares long.

SKILL LEVEL - BEGINNER + MATERIALS - Size 6 super bulky yarn • Loops & Threads Sweet Snuggles Lite - You can buy at Michaels or Amazon - Lavender & Coral (2 skeins each) • SIZE N (9MM) HOOK Blanket Size 30x40"

Gauge: 4dc 2"x2"

PATTERN Ch 54

Row 1: dc 3rd chain from hook. dc in next 3 chains. On your 4th dc, do not go through the last 2 loops on your hook, add your 2nd color, then go through those last 2 loops to complete the dc.

*From here on out, take the tail of the other color and carry by putting the tail over the hook while you dc* 

With 2nd color, dc in next 4 chains, but on your last dc, stop once you have 2 loops on your hook, use your color 1, and go through both loops.

Repeat to end of row. Finish the last DC with the same color. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: dc in next 4 sts. Use next color on your last 2 loops of 4th dc. Repeat until end of row. (Switch to other color), ch 2, turn.

Rows 3-4 you will switch the colors to get the checkered pattern.

Repeat rows until desired length! (38 rows)
